Fitzgerald Earns Region Player of the Year and Sibilski Earns Coach of the Year as WSOC Shows Well in Postseason Awards
LANSING, Mi. - Great Lakes Christian College Women's Soccer Program continues to raise the high bar it has set for itself as more individual accolades come their way. The Crusaders placed four on the 1st Team All Region while also taking the two big individual awards as Randi Fitzgerald earned Region Player of the Year and Coach Sam Sibilski earned his second consecutive Mideast Coach of the Year honor for the 9-3 Crusaders. This is the third time a GLCC Student Athlete has won Region Player of the Year and Randi Fitzgerald is the first female student athlete to garner the award.
1st Teamers:
Randi Fitzgerald- (Player of the Year)- The sophomore forward had her breakout campaign for GLCC scoring 15 goals and dishing out two assists on the year for a total of 32 points. Her 15 goals lead the country and she is second in the country in overall points. Fitzgerald has earned three Student Athlete of the Week Awards, and was the unanimous Player of the Year. She will now be up for National Player of the Year for NCCAA Women's Soccer.
Avery Carr- The freshman midfielder has played every position except goalie for the Crusaders but she has found a way to impact all over the field which made her memorable to all the coaches in the region. Carr had a tremendous freshman campaign with 11 goals and 2 assists.
Malia Fry- Fry has quickly established herself as one of if not the top goal keeper in the country. She is the Crusaders most consistent player just commanding the backline being the backstop for the Crusaders defense. Fry has 74 saves with a save percentage of 84% and goal against average of 1.43 which is good for second in the country.
Solara Sheldon- The senior captain and All American last year has provided great leadership in the midfield position and consistency to the Crusaders unit. She has three goals and two assists on the season, but her impact on the game is not always seen in the box score but the way she commands the midfield.
Coach of the Year
Coach Sam Sibilski continues his strong run as WSOC head coach earing his second Mideast Region Coach of the Year, keeping the Crusaders ranked for much of the season at #1 but never dropping below #2 in the polls. His group is 9-3 on the year and undefeated in NCCAA play heading into the Mideast Region Championship. His career record as the WSOC coach at GLCC is currently 25-9-3.
