Women's Soccer wins opener at IU-South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Great Lakes Christian College women's soccer opened its season with a 5-2 win over NAIA Indiana-South Bend on Saturday.
Elena Alvarado opened things with a 10th-minute goal off an Abbie Numerick assist. Hailey Conine doubled the lead 20 minutes later off another assist from Numerick, then added a second in the 38th to put GLCC ahead 3-0 in the first.
A Rebekahha Guess goal pulled the Titans back to within two right on halftime, but April Gillespie responded less than five minutes into the second half off a pass from Conine to push the lead up to 4-1.
Marissa Million scored for IUSB to make it 4-2, but Conine completed her hat trick and put the game beyond all doubt in the 83rd minute off an assist from Gillespie.
GLCC took 27 shots and put 14 on frame. Three of IUSB's 10 shots were on target. Rachel Wienclaw picked up the win in goal for Great Lakes. The Titans' Mo Villa was the only booking.
Great Lakes will have the rest of the weekend off before a five-game home stand which begins on Friday agaisnt Calumet College of St. Joseph.
