Charlick Named Full Time Men's Soccer Coach
LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College and Great Lakes Christian College Athletic Department is pleased to announce Marcus Charlick as the new full time Head Men's Soccer Coach. This will allow Coach Sam Sibilski to shift his focus to the WSOC program and athletic administration as the Assistant AD. Charlick is no stranger to the Crusader soccer program as he has been Coach Sam Sibilski's top assistant the last two seasons. He has had his fingers all over both the Men's and Women's soccer programs assisting with player development, recruiting, training sessions, and facilities. Charlick made his reputation at GLCC with his hard work, diligence and attention to detail. Charlick assisted the Crusaders to back to back national tournament appearances, two regional titles, and a national championship. The WSOC program is currently competing for their second national title in as many years this week.
Charlick has seven years of club playing experience with Novi Jaguars and Livonia City Soccer Club. Charlick's college career continued at Colorado Christian University for one season before he finished up his career at Spring Arbor University where he was an Academic All American.
Charlick currently has USSF D Coaching License and has one year experience coaching with the Novi Jaguars and Legends.
Director of Athletics Richard Westerlund said this about Charlick, "I am very excited about Marcus becoming our Men's Soccer Coach, he has put in the time and effort for the job. He has earned this opportunity. Marcus is young, but he is passionate about GLCC, our soccer program, and our student athletes. I am thankful for an administration that views athletics not just as an enrollment strategy but a discipleship strategy. This move is intentional to allow our coaches to be more intentional with our student athletes. I am excited to see Marcus continue to make impact on the lives of our student athletes and our campus."
Coach Sam Sibilski said this about Marcus, "I feel that I'm leaving the program in a great spot to move forward, I've had 2 great years with the Men's program. In two years the program has come a long way and is a true contender withing the region, and Marcus was a big part of that. I'm excited to see Marcus step into the role. Having done 2 years assisting both programs he knows what is required both on and off the field to continue taking the program to the next level."
Coach Charlick had this to say about the position, "I am beyond excited and grateful for this great opportunity God has given me. I will continue to transform and lead this program like Coach Sam Sibilski and I have for the past two years and hope to bring it to even greater heights! I'd like to thank AD Rich Westerlund and Coach Sam Sibilski for all the help, advice, and trust for the past two years as an assistant coach. I look forward to continue the hard work that has been put in place for years to come! Go Crusaders!"
