Men's Basketball takes NAIA #2 Saint Francis to the wire
LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College men's basketball traded blows with NAIA #2 Saint Francis on Monday night, coming up short, 95-90 at home.
Saint Francis jumped out to an early double-digit lead, scoring 26 points in the first eight minutes of the game, but Great Lakes fought back, shoring up their defense and whittling the gap down to one. A late push by the visitors extended their lead to 48-41 at halftime.
GLCC came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, hitting three early three-pointers and tying the game at 52. The teams traded the lead before USF pulled ahead for good midway through the period. Great Lakes would keep it close, but could not regain the lead and a late putback by David Egah in the losing seconds put the game away for Saint Francis.
Both teams shot very well, GLCC going 35/64 (54.7%) from the floor while USF made 37 of 71 (52.1%).
David Ejah went off for USF, scoring 44 points and grabbing 16 rebounds to pilot his team to victory. Antwann Cushingberry also picked up a duble-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, as well as seven assists.
Kylan Shipp led Great Lakes with 19 points. Whitney Harris added 17 off the bench with seven rebounds. TQ Belcher and Trent Temple scored 15 and 14, respectively.
Great Lakes will return to the Doty on Saturday to face another Crossroads League opponent, Spring Arbor, at 1:00.
